Look Good, Do Good: MarketPlace: Handwork of India

This is my third post about MarketPlace: Handwork of India, a company that’s working hard to bring about real change in women’s lives.

MarketPlace has a long history of helping low-income women run their own artisan businesses, and support their families. Here’s an excerpt from their Mission Statement:

MarketPlace: Handwork of India is an innovative fair trade, not-for-profit organization which combines the experience of running a business with a variety of support programs designed to effect real, meaningful, and lasting change in the lives of low-income women in India. We work with 480 artisans who are organized into 14 independent co-operatives which produce high-quality women’s apparel and home decor. Being in charge of their own businesses, the women learn valuable skills and are able to earn a living and support their families.

And also: their clothing and home decor items are truly original, beautiful, and reasonably priced. So, a big win when we shop there.

Beautiful, colorful pillows, curtains and more.

MarketPlace invited me to sample one of their new pieces for Spring/Summer, and I chose this reversible wrap skirt.
It’s got pockets and a generous wrap, so no unexpected flashing. I’ve
loved this style since a was in college, and had quite a collection of
cotton wraps back then.

I think the skirt will look fab with all different color tees for summer. For the office I chose a simple black top from GAP, a thrifted pendant, and my ever-cool Cydwoq booties. The print on the booties is a perfect contrast with the skirt!

The print looks like a dove of peace.
Could the booties be more perfect with this skirt?
A peek at the reverse side. Oops, booties are unzipped.

Please have a look at MarketPlace’s new catalog and see if anything there tickles you. And have a terrific Tuesday, and stay fabulous,

  1. Lovely skirt. Very well combined with the belt and the booties. You are right, they could not be more perfect with this skirt. Nice necklace too.
And I want those Isaac Misrahi leopard booties….

  2. I love how the boots pattern seem to echo the tribal abstract (is it ikat? Hmm) print on the skirt. I too am a fan of Marketplace. The quality is great too.

  8. Lovely skirt, and your styling is terrific. After reading a previous Marketplace of India post, I ordered a tunic top from them. It's a great top for jeans or to throw over a bathing suit. I was really impressed with their customer service, too–quick delivery and personal service in the form of a follow-up email on an exchanged item.

  9. I LOVE this skirt!

Can I just add your hair is looking amazing lately?

    bisous
