A Simple Uniform That Works For Me

Sally of Already Pretty asked a few days ago about our clothing “uniforms”  – formulas we rely on as the backbones of our wardrobes. It’s such a terrific concept, and it takes away a lot of morning stress for me. On many work days my uniform is: Full skirt and feminine top, plus shoes with a bit of personality. Usually I add some kind of light jacket or cardigan for the chilly office.

As I looked over some recent outfit pictures, I saw that I was right-on in my description. Here’s a recent outfit that I really enjoyed wearing because it’s: 1) feminine, 2) easy to wear all day in comfort, 3) flattering, and 4) got a touch of personality with the black booties.

Black knit skirt and graphic blouse. It fits the “uniform”

Does the uniform concept resonate with you? Take a look at some of the fifty replies Sally received to her post – there’s a lot of individual versions of uniforms!

Happy, happy Friday to all!

  1. i guess my uniform would be a button up shirt, jeans and a statement necklace
i seem to gravitate toward that when i don't want to think about what to wear
    have a great holiday weekend

  2. You are beautiful, just sayin'.  You remind me of my best friend since I was 17, also one of us, a petite blonde cutie 😉
also FYI:  I've been using Philip Kingsley Elasticizer and I think our hair is so much alike (curly, blonde, need to manage frizz?, fine) so maybe pass on this to you.  I use a tiny bit after towel drying, as a leave-in conditioner – not as they recommend, they say use it as a pre-shampoo treatment, didn't work as well for me as leave-in.

  3. I don't have a typical 9-5 job so I never really thought about it. But I would probably be too schitzo to go with anything long enough to be a uniform. haha

  4. This is you Patti! always feminine!
I too try to be comfortable i sit all day in front of a PC
I want style and look different plus colorful, that is my uniform:)

    Take care

  5. I don't really have a uniform – the closest I get to it is jeans with a figure showing jersey top, and maybe a scarf. I would like to find a more feminine one, like yours with the beautiful skirts!

  6. I think I have a uniform of sorts: pants or crops, button down shirt and jacket/sweater if cooler.

  7. My uniform is probably summed up as fitted top and skirt or flowy top and pants.  Black, brown and grey are my core piece colors–don't stray much from  them.

  8. Patti, I am trying to break out of my uniform! I want to be set free from the uniform. I adopted a grey and black uniform 5 years ago that I would like to toss for more color. The Advanced Style book has got me drooling for color so I hope to have a more colorful uniform soon which consists of a skirt and sweater or blazerish combo. 🙂

  9. You look so comfortable and beautiful in your signature style! My uniform often consists of chino style trousers and a bright top or blouse. It's a shame I susually don't have anyone around to photograph when I go to work, because that's when I tend to wear my uniform most of the time.

    Have a beautiful Friday! xo

  10. That's a good idea to make a sorta list of you look for in an outfit. Might be helpful so you don't get lost when shopping. I would say my uniform is easy, childproof and something to make me smile. Keeps it pretty open.

  11. The uniform definitely resonates with me–often it is a pencil skirt and button down blouse/shirt, with a sensible heel.

  12. Those feminine skirts look great on you. I like narrow leg pants and longer tops for my uniform. Love jackets of all kinds and shapes because they add structure to my upper body.

  13. I love the idea of a uniform but can't quite seem to figure one out.  I don't think I have a go-to outfit or combination of clothes.  But, I'd definitely like to have one, even if just for those days I can't think of anything to wear.

  14. I think my interest in testing the waters means my style will never be at a uniformed level, however I do know I like specific themes to my clothing pieces. I like flat shoes with lots of straps. I like full skirts with wide waist bands. I like plaid and stripes and things with Victorian or futuristic flair.

  15. Patti, you have such a distinct style and it's one of the things I love about you!  It's great to experiment, but it's also really cool to KNOW what's you and what you feel good in.  Your uniform looks GREAT on you!  Hugs to you!  ~Serene

  16. I'm still trying to work out my workday uniform for warmer weather. I'm on the prowl for some linen jackets…
