Visible Monday #27: Start the New Year with a Friendly Link-Up!

Happy New Year! And welcome to Visible Monday #27! If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the simple how-to.

I am starting off the year with a faithful favorite: an animal print. This time it’s in skirt form, and no actual animals were harmed in its making.  Many polyesters and rayons may have met their ends, however. I bought this skirt at Housing Works thrift store in NYC, for under $10. It’s from H & M, in a nice, sturdy material and feels very cozy.

The top is a vintage 80’s find from a local thrift. I like the open neckline and three-quarter sleeves. My preference lately has been for clothing that doesn’t fit too closely to the body, and this top is perfection. (It really isn’t very sheer; I got caught in the Alexandra Kerry photo-flash effect!)

Of course, tights and boots finish the look, it being January and all. And, because I obsess on recent purchases, I am wearing my bangle bracelet yet again. I felt great at work in this outfit, covered enough but with a bit of personality showing through.

Top: vintage,thrifted; Skirt: H & M, thrifted; Boots: Aldo
The blouse isn’t nearly so sheer in real life: the camera flash has this effect!

I can’t wait to see what you are wearing today!

The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple!

  1. Any Monday, whoever wants to can join in! Just compose a post that includes any outfit, accessory, piece of jewelry, hairstyle, cosmetic or other adornment that makes you feel more confident, alive and visible that day.
  2. Include a link to Not Dead Yet Style somewhere in your post.
  3. Go to the bottom of this post and click on this cute little link:

In the “Next Step”, you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you’re done!

  1. Love the animal print skirt.  You look great darling.  Happy New Year.  Stylish start 🙂

  2. This is so cool! I love to see fashion blogs of more mature ladies that I could look up to! I mean, I don't want to wear mini skirts and micro shorts featured on 18-year-old blogger! Cute on them, not cute one me! I'll definitely participate next week!

  3. Hmm, I was afraid you might ask that. I'm not entirely sure. It must be in your settings somewhere. Try going to Settings > Other and see what it says under Site Feed: Allow Blog Feed? Mine is set at Full.

  4. Hi Amber Lena! I am not sure how to change the settings on Google Reader to show an entire post — I wasn't aware that was even possible    : >  If there's an easy-to-describe fix, would you email it to me? Many thanks!!

  5. Looking good, as always Patti. I keep meaning to tell you – when I'm using Google Reader to catch up on blogs, yours only shows the first few sentences of a post. Not sure if that's deliberate on your part, but I thought I would mention it since so many people seem to be reading blogs via the reader.

  6. nice monochrome outfit, I like the leopard print, interesting accent. Happy 2012!

  7. LOVE that skirt! You are looking as fabulous as ever Patti. Missed posting and looking at VM. Happy New Year!

  8. Patti, you are radiant in the animal print with black background.  What a find!

  9. I like this look enough that I'm wondering why I passed my cheetah-print skirt along to my daughter and wondering if she'd lend it back . . .;-)
And I can see why you keep wearing that bangle — it really draws the eye effectively.
Great collection of links to start the year off right, thank you!

  10. Patti, I hope you don't mind but I just finished a cumulative age related fashion post, and added my link …again.  Please feel free to take the other one down if you like…I just thought this post was much more relative to your blog…which by the way Ilove your message!

  11. Happy New Year, Patti! Congratulations on an awesome year of blogging, and kudos to you for bringing the 40+ fashion bloggers into mainstream with Visible Mondays. I'm honoured to be a participant.

  12. ZZWow! You always look great in animal prints. I went with grungies today as it was time to take the tree to the recycling center and finish cleaning up the house. Messy!

  13. Hey Patti!  Missed you and love that not an animal was harmed…lol.  You're looking wonderful; you look really good in black–unlike myself.

See you soon–I'll be in touch via email~

  14. I've just discovered your blog and am so glad I did. I love the Visible Monday concept!

You look quite elegant in that outfit. Do you think that you will wear the skirt with a different color top? I've tried wearing black and white prints with a solid hue and found the look was too '80s for my taste. I look forward to seeing how else you will wear it.

  15. I've just discovered your blog. Love the Visible Monday concept.
You look quite elegant in this outfit. Do you think you'll pair the skirt with a different colored top?

  16. Patti you look beautiful in this outfit. When I first saw the picture I thought of how far you have come from not showing your face in the blog. You have gotten much more confident and very beautifully visible.
I also obsess over new purchases. I would probably wear my new black/white polka dot blouse everyday!

  17. I would love to find a skirt like this…it looks great on you Patti…very visible!  It is a great piece to hold on to.

  18. That skirt is such a great find! I bet you will get lots of wear from it this winter.

And I think your new bracelet adds the perfect amount of color.
