Sometimes you see a piece – usually at the thrift – and you don’t know how or where you’re going to wear it, but you gotta have it. And usually when that feeling strikes, and you buy it, you end up loving it. That was the case with this global-chic maxi skirt.
Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Link back to Not Dead Yet Style if you like – we’re on Easy Does It “rules” now! |
Love at first sight – the print and shape and flared mermaid hem. It was marked $6.99 but I got my senior discount, accckkk, and with Canadian exchange rates, I owned it for less than a latte. Yes, I was in Canada, thrifting with my dear friends Suzanne and Ally. Which means we all voted on each others’ purchases; this skirt got a hearty two thumbs up.
I played around with what to wear on top – the skirt can be wonderfully dressy or casual. Today I went with a graphic tee, featuring a French bulldog (you see, more global influence). The vintage cuff is from Citizen Rosebud’s shop.
Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women.

You aren’t concerned that you, a blond White person, are appropriating the culture of this African print?
I love that skirt and how you styled it with the T-shirt! So cool!
The skirt has that gorgeous make you feel good swish I bet Patti. A mermaid tail always does that for me anyway. A bloggers meet up and getting some retail therapy sounds like a perfect day to me!
Have a fab week x
Anna
In love with this look, Patti! That skirt is beautiful and I love the playful addition of your graphic tee! So chic!

Waxed cotton! How fabulous! The style is utterly gorgeous on you.
Suzanne and Ally must be your lucky shopping charms to find that beauty. I’ve yet to find a ready made piece in a small size, they’re always, in the words of Precious Ramotswe from The ladies No.1 Detective Agency, made for “traditionally proportioned ladies”. xxx
Mma Ramotswe, I love her so much! This skirt is actually about a US size 12, and needs to be taken in. xox
The print and cut of that skirt are uniquely fabulous. Great choice!!
thank you Jude! xo
How unexpected and absolutely lovely to see you in an African print/Ankara skirt. Looks lovely, and what a great price too!

Great skirt, so cute with the tee! I hope your wrist is feeling much, much better.
This skirt is so cute, and I love the way you styled it with the doggy top.
This skirt is an amazing find and definitely not to miss if it fits you so well! Dress it up or down (perfect with a t-shirt as you show us here) – you won’t be wrong, it’s perfect skirt to own!
After reading Suzanne’s comment, I want you to post a photo of the back view of the skirt! It is a very cool piece, and I’m glad you found it here in Canada!
Whoa, yes, I mean YES to the skirt. I’m glad you bought it and found a way to wear it. It’s show-stopping. Think global, act global – is that a thing? Hugs.
It’s like an African or batik style print!!! Love! Shape is perfect & so good with the tee 🙂
You find the best bargains Patti! That skirt is stunning! I love how you’ve styled it with the graphic T-shirt. I have a sweater with a French bulldog on and so many people comment on it. Thanks for hosting, hope you have a great week!

I absolutely understand making buying something not the norm with your style and yet loving so much that it becomes a must-buy. Your skirt is fabulous and you look quite ageless pairing it with a graphic tee. Thanks for all your inspirations and the link up.

I couldn’t agree more: love at first sight happens (at least as far as clothes are concerned) and you should listen to your heart. I’ve never regretted getting something I instantly liked, but I have felt like kicking myself on a few occasions when I managed to talk myself out of getting something I liked but didn’t know how to wear it…
And this is a really beautiful skirt, and it looks perfect with the t-shirt.
Very cool skirt, Patti! Thanks for the link up, as always!
You look adorable! LOVE that chic tee!
