Visible Monday #82: Visible in Mood Lighting

Welcome to Visible Monday #82! If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the simple how-to.

I made a vest for myself! Well, the super-laziest way: I tucked the ends of my Christian Audigier scarf into my belt for a vest-y look. It gives some personality to an otherwise neutral outfit.

The Breton tee is Jones New York. The flared asymmetrical skirt was thrifted as was the leather belt. I’m wearing my beloved Tsubo booties and no hose today. Tights would look fab, but it’s 77 degrees, a woman’s got to breathe.

The second moody, film noir snapshot is a result of my husband/photographer having his finger over the flash. I like it.

I am the least crafty/DIY among us, but I made a vest!
I am ready for my French film debut here. Hand me a Gauloise.

Now, let’s see what you’re wearing, Visible Women!!

The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple!

  1. Whoever wants to can join in! Just compose a post that includes any outfit, accessory, piece of jewelry, hairstyle, cosmetic or other adornment that makes you feel more confident, alive and visible that day.
  2. Include a link to Not Dead Yet Style somewhere in your post.
  3. Go to the bottom of this post and click on this cute little link:

In the “Next Step”, you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you’re done!

  1. Thank you so much for your post. I think it's just great and I would love to see more of it in the near future. Lighting is such an important part of our lives and it is nice to know more about it and make the best of it.

  2. Your second photo has a wonderful "come thither my dear – I have something lovely for you…" Is it a poison dart or a piece of cake?
Your creation of the scarf vest is inspired, and I especially like it with your stripes.

  3. Ooh la la Patti, your ensemble is Tres Magnifique!   I like how you did the scarf – it's big enough to look great belted and is such a fun contrast to the stripes!  I also like the mood lighting 🙂

  4. I love your look Patti and your clever vest! Your 2nd photo looks best because the colours are richer, I try not to use flash because it always drains the colours for me.

  5. The Breton stripes mix wonderfully with the elaborate pattern of the scarf. No hose! I'm wearing long dresses so that I can wear thermal underwear up here in New England.

  6. Patti, you creative lady! I love wearing my scarves like this, so cute. And I love the mix of patterns and rich colors. Thanks for hostessing today!!! ~Sarah

  7. Wow, what an amazing light fixture!  I know I'm supposed to be looking at your ensemble,  but hey.  OK, everything is so subtle-y cool – your asymmetrical skirt, the ankle boots, the dolman sleeve striped top, and then your groovy vest scarf.  Pretty snazzy, Patti.

  8. Happy Visible Monday, Patti! I do love that Breton stripe top, and the pseudo-vest looks smashing with it.

  9. What a beautiful scarf Patti – you could wear a bin-liner with it & it would beautify the outfit, (although please note, your top and skirt and not bin-liner-ish!)

  10. Gorgeous scarf & I love how you made it into a "vest."  And I love it paired with the striped tee and that great skirt.

  11. Oh Patti, what a fabulous light to shine on an equally fabulous outfit. I love both. I must admit I have a 'thing' for lamps of all types. This is a really fabulous one that is pretty much a piece of art.

  12. Hey, that's clever, I must try that! The scarf is lovely and as you say, really adds a fun dash of lively to the mix! Got to love Breton stripes though, you just need a beret and a string of onions! (one day I am going to actually do that!) for cliched French look!  Love the flash shot! I wish that would happen with me- it just gives me evil glitter eyes when I use the flash!

  13. Good Morning Patti…You may say you're the least DIY/crafty, but you can honestly say you're the most clever!  Love the idea of 'refashioning' a scarf into a vest.  No tights {sigh}…I can't complain too much as our PNW weather isn't really that bad.  Thanks for hosting VM.

  14. I have just arrived from a long weekend away, but I had to join you all my gorgeous friend. Especially you, my kind and dear Patti.

  15. Love how you used the scarf here Patti! I have been trying to play with my scarves a little bit more with Sylvia's 40+ Style's monthly challenge. I am close to as being as creative as you!  Looking lovely as always!

  16. You DO look ready to star in a romantic French film, Patti, you have no need of a Gauloise! Such a pretty scarf too, you always look effortlessly elegant. xxx

  17. I am just really loving these booties and the black/brown, stripes and pattern mixing here.  Such a cute look!

  18. That gorgeously simple creation can definitely be considered a vest – it looks absolutely beautiful with that amazing breton top! xo

  19. Excellent job on your homemade vest, it's beautiful and a great idea. I also love the second photo, the lighting is perfect and goes right along with your glowing smile.

  20. You look really french chic! I love the Breton tee. To make a vest of that beautiful scarf in such an easy manner is a great idea!

  21. So jealous of your weather! I could actually wear a dress in 70 degree weather! It's been drizzling freezing rain. I do love the lighting in the second photo. Very sultry! ;P Lol! Looking good Ms Patti!

  22. This outfit is so up my alley – I love the breton tee with a midi skirt and booties.  The scarf vest is a nice touch.

  23. Ooohl la la, Mme Patti. L'éclairage déprimé est très mystérieux (the moody lighting is very mysterious — thank you Mac Dasboard translater). LOVE the moody lighting — consider putting something frosty over your flash in future shots?
Love your skirt, it looks so perfect for your warm weather.

  24. I love that idea for a "vest"! Way easier than sewing, and that scarf is gorgeous. I took some sleeves off a sweater to make a vest – it didn't need hemming, and I wear it more often now.

Thanks for hosting – this is always a great party!

  25. The scarf trick is FABULOUS!!!  I can see all kinds of possibilities.  I hear you on the no-hose.  I pretty much dislike it all, hence a lot of boots or maxis.

Hope you've had a great weekend.  XXOO

  26. You are too funny, Patti! Very cute ensemble. I like the "noir lighting!" (and that light fixture, very cool!

  27. That scarf is gorgeous Patti.  I love the design.  It looks wonderful over the striped shirt.

  28. OO,LA,LA…Patti..you look so French!  The scarf and the T are a perfect pair!  Have a great Monday!

  29. You're so talented to make that 'vest'!!!  You can't possibly be any less crafty than me!!!  Love the sexy bedroom lighting in the second pic– hubby knows what he's doing behind the lens lolzzz!  (It was 83 here at it's highest, I think!! Wearing all cotton today to stay cool!!)
