Refresh and renew your basics. A lot of us with smaller wardrobes face the dreaded (first world) problem of wardrobe boredom. We mix and match, and add scarves or jewelry to make old looks more fun. Do more with less, as the fashion gurus advise.
Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Link back to Not Dead Yet Style if you like – we’re on Easy Does It “rules” now!
Today I’m sharing a couple of wardrobe tips to refresh what’s already in our closets. It’s not that we’ve given up shopping for good! Just slowing down to enjoy what we’ve got.
Refresh Tip #1: experiment with any blouse or top worn backwards. This doesn’t always work – see Celine Dion‘s famous reverse tuxedo from 1999 – but it does work for a surprising number of tops and tees. My Vetta wrap blouse has a new, edgier look worn backwards.
Refresh Tip #2: swap out your “usual” footwear for something totally casual or dressy, depending on your mood. I usually wear these We The Free high-rise jeans (rented from Nuuly, go check them out) with red or white sneakers. The jeans have a more sophisticated look today with these 2″ suede wedges.

That blouse does look great worn back to front. I was not a fan of Dion’s backwards tuxedo look either! I’ve been waiting to switch out my summer and fall clothing so I can see what basics need replacing, but I’m waiting for the weather to decide what season it is.
Thanks Shelley. You actually have changes of season where you are – that must make for festive wardrobe planning! Have a wonderful day, xox.
I really like that idea of wearing a blouse the other way. there is a top I think would look good like that. In the last couple of months, I have also become a fan of high-waist wide-legged trousers. they look so stylish on you Patti.

Good morning, Alison and thanks for coming by! Yes, the high-waist trousers are my current jam and I’m happy you like them too. I’m enjoying your post about affordable skin care, xox.
Wearing a blouse back to front is a great idea – I have a wrap blouse from Zara that would work worn like that! Fab outfit Patti! Thanks for hosting 🙂

Great tips Patti, the top is great and those wide leg jeans really are so good on you. Many thanks for hosting , enjoy your week.
Thank you Jill. Your photos of the cherry blossoms are artistic and lovely – and your new floral trousers = all that! xox
I have not tried wearing a blouse backward for a different look – what a great idea and thank you for sharing!
I hope you are having a great week so far!

Same good wishes back to you, Amber. And you look gorgeous in your animal print booties! xox
Cardigans also look super-cute done up and worn backwards! I love this classy look on you, Patti!
Thank you so much for hosting – my apologies for my lateness!
Yeah, cardigans backwards looks yummy – we are still a month from cardigan weather, sigh. Thanks for coming over and linking up, and sharing that amazing closet with us! xox
Patti, that’s a great tip! I will have to play around with that blouse backward idea. It’s a super way to get another look from a top!
xx Darlene
Good morning, Darlene! Thanks for your kind words and for linking up. Love that yellow coat, so cheery! xox
Oooh! I LOVE Those jeans on you. The wide leg on your frame is amazing. The whole outfit is so chic. Very NYC. I could see the pants paired with a chunky sweater, scarf, hat and boots for NY. I need to find some like this thrifting…maybe Poshmark : )
Thank you Suzanne! You and Mel got me started on the high-waist wide-legged trousers and now they’re favorites. Glad you had a successful show! xox
ooo Patti, I wanted to see the back view of your top. Is it Celine-esque? Whatever it is, it really does look good on you. And a great idea too.
Thanks Pao. No, my hind quarters are not exposed, thank the gods : >
Love your olive duo today, xox.
Hi Patti
I do love the way you styled your blouse and those jeans look fabulous on you. I do remember that CD outfit! I have seen some bloggers wear cardigans backwards or button down shirts. I need to try!

Hello Jess! I haven’t tried the backwards-trick with a button down, must experiment. You new Jambu boots are fab, xox.
what a great look. I remember when we use to do that all the time.
Thanks for linking up, Linda! You’re rocking the plaid swing dress in a great Autumn-way. xox
What a fun idea! I might have to see which tops this would work with in my closet!!

Good morning, Mireille and thanks for coming by! I enjoyed your September round-up and that cool utility jacket, xox.
Your top looks nice like that and I really like those wide leg jeans.
Thank you Julie and thanks for coming over! Loving that polka dot sweater, xox.
This is such a cute outfit! I have tried to wear some tops backwards, but I always feel like I am choking because the necklines come up too high! The neckline of your shirt seems to work for this trend though! I love it!

Thanks Shelbee and thanks for coming over. I love your dressy-shorts look and your jaunty beret! xox
Love the top and the flares!
Thanks Erica! Love your 70’s revival look today, xox.
I have a bunch of tops (and one dress) that definitely look better backwards—this is a great tip!

Hi Cheryl! thanks for linking up, and I appreciate the pics of Fall trends. Those wide leg leather trousers look divine! xox
Interesting refresh ideas! I haven’t tried wearing tops backwards, but it’s a thought I’ll consider. It would definitely change things up a bit! Thanks for hosting the party!
Good morning, Debbie and thanks for linking up! Your pumpkins are whimsical and make me smile : > xox.
I have to use the backwards concept for all my older scoop neck garments because showing my scarred chest would gross people out and scare the children. Ha. You’d be amazed what a bosom does in terms of fit. Then again, men’s tops fit great now! Plus NO BRA!!!!!!
When I got the boots I linked, I thought “these are Patti boots”. xxox
You look stylin’ and like your own fabulous self, Anne. Boobs are nice, but going bra-free is lovely too. Thanks for coming over and have a totally groovy California day, xox.
I love your outfits, and that is a great idea about the blouse! I will have to go to my closet and see what I can do. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you, Pamela, for your kind words and for dropping by! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. xox
