I think every closet needs a couple (or more) “statement pieces”. Pieces that could become your signature, or that get worn when you’re in a certain statement mood. We all have our own ideas of what makes a statement piece, from a fab kimono to a feathered fascinator, to floral hiking boots. You know one when you see one.

That’s how I felt when I saw this amazing vintage tie-dye coat on Kinky Melon‘s site. Vix always has beautiful and unexpected pieces, and I knew this one had to come live with me. It feels like a heavy cotton, and I think it was hand-tailored. It’s over-sized for my frame, but I love that – it creates a 40’s silhouette.
One of my favorite ingredients about wearing vintage (Vix says this one is late 80’s/early 90’s) is that you will NOT see yourself coming and going. This coat makes a definite statement. And check out the back with its amazing rain guard.
Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women. The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple:

PATTI, That thrifted coat is spectacular and looks great
I love this piece on you, Patti! As you said, it has a 1940s vibe to it, which in my mind is always glamorous. You wear it with modern flair so it is at once timelessly elegant and edgy. So, so cool!
This is such a fabulous coat that can also double as a dress. You sure have a knack of finding the best vintage pieces at consignment places!
I agree with you about certain stand out pieces. This coat is very beautiful and looks like a handmade Batik print , superb! A beautiful choice. Have a wonderful week.
This coat is an incredible statement piece!
I hope you are having a great week so far!
Couldn’t agree more, we all need a few statement pieces in our wardrobe and this one is quite the statement, you look fantastic. Vix always seems to unearth some treasures, she has a wonderful eye. Enjoy wearing this one. Many thanks for Visible Monday.
That thrifted coat is spectacular and looks great on you Patti. I’ve always loved batik fabric and this one is very pretty. Might be fun to keep your eyes open for the perfect rainboots. Or you could fark some!! 🙂
LOL! I could ask Mel to fark some boots for me, great idea Jude. xox
So agree with you about a statement piece, and nothing better than a great vintage piece. Great find!
Such an unexpected piece! Looks beautiful on you, and I love the Sherlock Holmes reference! 🙂
I love a good statement piece (or several). That’s my biggest issue with capsule wardrobes—they’re too basic and missing a little drama!

What a cool piece! Vix finds some really amazing items. I’m often tempted by her fab inventory despite my own massive vintage collection.
Wow – what a gorgeous coat! The colors and style make such a bold statement. I love unique statement pieces and the bit of drama they add to a wardrobe.
I love that kind of batik print. It always seems perfect for summer and vacations. Thank you for hosting the link-up! Julia
Loving the artsy print dress dear. I love fuchsia on you. It makes a splashing statement! <3 Ada.
I love statement pieces, a great coat, boot, just as you said. Love the design and the loose belt looks great styled this way.
Have a great week!
What a fabulous statement piece Patti! You won’t get lost in the crowd!
How about a fanny pack (or body bag, as they call them in Germany) is that considered a statement piece? That’s what I’m wearing in my new post.
Sherlock on acid!! I couldn’t have put it better myself! When I found that beauty I knew it was going to end up living with someone fabulous – and it has!! You look amazing and I know it’s going to have a wonderful life with you! xxx
So nice and you look great in it! Always important to have those statement pieces and that is definitely one of those 🙂

This coat is amazing Patti. It is a true statement piece and you look great in it
It’s really cute!
Such a stunning coat Patti! I love the print, very unusual. What a great find! Hope you have a wonderful week!
That is a great “art” coat and I agree with you about the statement pieces. I probably make them more with hats, mainly because not that many hats are worn where I live. But this post also makes a point for vintage pieces. They are one of a kind and more than likely will make statements and you don’t have to worry about someone having the same piece. Oh, and love this piece. I would wear it…
What a fabulous piece! I live for statement pieces! Gah, between this post and your last one, I’m going down the rabbithole of Suzanne’s and Vix’s sites! Have a great week, Patti! I’ll be linking up shortly.
I’m a sucker for these statement pieces. So much so that sometimes i struggle with finding the basics in my closet…LOL!!
This is so gorgeous, Patti!!
I couldn’t agree more! Statement pieces add something special to your wardrobe, and can really elevate personal style. And that’s a beautiful coat you have, and such a great color.
Gorgeous dress-coat Patti. I love the detailing on the back! Have a great week xx
