I think every closet needs a couple (or more) “statement pieces”. Pieces that could become your signature, or that get worn when you’re in a certain statement mood. We all have our own ideas of what makes a statement piece, from a fab kimono to a feathered fascinator, to floral hiking boots. You know one when you see one.

Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Link back to Not Dead Yet Style if you like – we’re on Easy Does It “rules” now!

That’s how I felt when I saw this amazing vintage tie-dye coat on Kinky Melon‘s site. Vix always has beautiful and unexpected pieces, and I knew this one had to come live with me. It feels like a heavy cotton, and I think it was hand-tailored. It’s over-sized for my frame, but I love that – it creates a 40’s silhouette.

Belting the coat makes for a great dress. It also looks fab left open and flowy.

One of my favorite ingredients about wearing vintage (Vix says this one is late 80’s/early 90’s) is that you will NOT see yourself coming and going. This coat makes a definite statement. And check out the back with its amazing rain guard.

A fabulous Sherlock Holmes-on-acid look from the back. The patent leather zip-front loafers are by Cole Haan Air.

Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women. The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple:

  10. That is a great “art” coat and I agree with you about the statement pieces. I probably make them more with hats, mainly because not that many hats are worn where I live. But this post also makes a point for vintage pieces. They are one of a kind and more than likely will make statements and you don’t have to worry about someone having the same piece. Oh, and love this piece. I would wear it…
