There are some fabulous bargains in New York City. I had a perfect manicure with hand massage for $8.50. Two delicious egg-and-cheese-on-a-bagel sandwiches for under $9. Happy hour wine, two-for-one!
And the thrifting can be amazing as well. Last post I wrote about finding Donald J. Pliner nylon and leather boots for under $20. Here they are:
The pic is blown out so you can see the details. Squared toes are not exactly on-trend, but that bothers me not one bit. They’re lined in leather, and so comfortable too. |
A big-city discovery: fingerless gloves work a charm when trying to negotiate the cell phone/camera on the street! |
Real estate is not one of the city’s bargains, however. We looked at four apartments today, for between $550,000 and $670,000. A couple were totally charming, but could fit into a corner of our Florida condo! And laundry? Around the corner. To paraphrase the character in Jaws (see quote #35), “We’re going to need more money.”
For our anniversary “dinner”, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and crusty bread at The Ear Inn. And a celebratory glass of wine too, of course. Twelve years of marriage, twenty-one years of togetherness and it really does keep getting better. ☺
It’s a quaint historic pub in SoHo. |
Happy Monday to you all and thanks for coming by,
Happy Anniversary beautiful couple!
I love the shoes- and what a mind-blowingly great find- Pliners for $20? Wowzahs. I love the look of 'em they look like a good pair of vintage go-go boots to me- which reminds me of Vix and some other amazing retro style Queens- so that is a priceless boon to your already fab find.
I wasn't aware you are reverse retiring- from Florida to New York. Hope you find a good and affordable love nest!
Bwa-ha-ha- we're going to need more money… A favourite line.
Awesome boots.
Ooops .. hit post too quickly … happy happy anniversary – here's wishing you a happy 'til forever' together
Hello Patti,
Lovely boots – I also don't bother with whether or not pointed, square or round is the in thing.
I love this … "it really does keep getting better"
How beautiful! Congrats on your anniversary.
Happy Anniversary to the couple! Sounds like you are finding some steals and good luck in apartment hunting!

Loving the boots and the fingerless gloves… it is getting to be about time to wear them. I used to live there and miss it sometimes but never the cost of real estate! Good luck finding a place. http://mamapicturethis.blogspot.com
How cool are those bargains … know you're having fun in a cooler style environment for a change. Temperature wise, I mean! So happy you're having fun. And sharing with us especially. BTW … happy belated Anniversary. Gorgeous couple, you kids!
Sounds you had a nice time. Your boots look stylish and if they're comfortable it's a winner.
xoxo
Aw, Happy Anniversary to you guys! I've never been to NYC, for shame, but would love to go. I like the boots – very 90s. I recently bought some Etienne Aigner square-toed granny boots on Ebay. At first I was like, Oh, square toe 🙁 but now I'm saying, Oh, square toe 🙂 🙂 !
Pliners for $20? An outright steal ~
I do understand that condition!
We are contemplating a pied-a-terre, as they say en France 😉
But for our budget, we will have to wait for the parakeet to move out of it . . .
Love to meet you there!
They're black but the flash makes them blue
New York is on my visit list! But .. nooo, I could not live there ( I am anti-winter ).

Happy Anniversary to you and your Mr! I wish I was there in NYC with you 😉

Happy anniversary Patti!!
Those boots are gorgeous!!
It sounds like you had a fantastic anniversary! Congratulations!
Oh the Ear Inn. I used to live near there. AUGH you're making me homesick for New York. So happy you had such a nice time.
Hi there! Happy anniversary to you and love those boots! Your thrifted jacket in your last post was a fabulous buy and looks lovely!! xx
The boots are lovely, Patti – I like a square toe, I had no idea it was old-fashioned but like you, I care not one bit!
I would imagine NYC is a very expensive city to live in, even if there are thrifting and dining bargains to be found. Are you thinking of moving from the Florida sunshine? Or were you just window shopping by looking at apartments?
Happy Anniversary to you and your lovely husband, it sounds as though you are making the most of your celebratory trip and having a wonderful time together. xxxx
Happy Anniversary Patti & Techie Hubby!! What, real estate higher than Vancouver? It sounds as though the search may be challenging, but I do hope you find your not too little piece of the big apple.
Looks like you are really enjoying your trip…so much in fact you want to move there! It would be a fun place to have a second little flat.
We took in the Dead Rabbit a very old pub in Old New York the last time we were there and really enjoyed it.
Score on the boots! Are they purple/blue? LOVE!
bisous
Suzanne
Those are some great boots and a fabulous bargain. Good luck on the search for an apartment, sounds fun!
blue hue wonderland

Those boots are fantastic, what a cool find! x
I have a lot of square toes, mostly because of thifting shoes and boots. I don't care – I've never liked pointy toes.
I love the heel detail on your boots and the contrast of textures! Very cool. New York looks so interesting, and I'm reading a book set in Manhattan so my interest is really piqued.
Happy Anniversary, Patti!! Love the boots, the quaint pub, the gloves, and just everything NYC!!
Looks like you had an amazing time in the city while you were here! It's the best place on Earth to live, especially as you get older (I'm a transplant from Virginia..10 years ago).
The Ear Inn! I go there often. Your boots are stylish.
It's fine just to visit. Living there is a different story.
