Sandy and I don’t celebrate Christmas; that is, we don’t do cards or gifts or home decor. For us, it’s a warm, quiet day when we’re at peace with the world, and even adversaries are inclined to lay down their swords. Dinner with friends, favorite music, and holiday red for our “donning of gay apparel.”

Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Link back to Not Dead Yet Style if you like – we’re on Easy Does It “rules” now!

This red cotton sweater practically shouts “HOLIDAYS.” I found it a a thrift, but I can’t remember when or where. The floral skirt was thrifted in a foreign country: at Talize in Canada, while thrifting with the fabulous Suzanne and Ally. And the “ON” pin (there’s also an “OFF”) was a gift from the lovely Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb.

I insisted on wearing boots (these by Doc Martens) even though it’s still plenty warm. The full curls on my head are thanks to the Paige wig by Paula Young. Any minute now my hair is going to start growing back!

Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women.

The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple:

    1. Whoever wants to can join in! Just compose a post that includes any outfit, accessory, piece of jewelry, hairstyle, cosmetic or other adornment that makes you feel more confident, alive and visible that day.
    2. Go to the bottom of this post and click on the InLinkz button “Add Your Link”. It should open a new page.
    3. In the “Next Step”, you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you’re done!
    4. Visit a few other bloggers, to make new friends and increase your own following.

Oh hey! Not Dead Yet Style is on Instagram! Please check it out when you have a moment: Instagram.

  1. You look gorgeous in red and this fabulous florals! I love how the boots add an edgy tone to your festive attire too — it suits your personality! I did not grow up with Christmas, so it’s basically the tradition of celebrating New Year to me. I love that the whole world celebrates and everyone is a bit up. Love Christmas carols – we have a boat coming to our neighborhood to sing for us every year! 🙂

  2. We are also big fans of taking it easy for the holidays. No need to rush around like a crazy person running up debt!

The bold red is always gorgeous on a blond.

I’m so sorry to hear that the stress was hard on your hair. Good thing you have some wonderful hair hats while you await the regrowth.

  3. We don’t really celebrate Christmas either. We do Christmas Eve with just the two of us, and Christmas itself is spent lounging in our pajamas! You are looking quite festive in your vibrant red top, and the skirt is just fabulous! Love the on/off pins too! xxx

  4. Love this fabulous holiday outfit; yes it does look like the essence of Christmas!
Love the red sweater, yay you for thrifting it! The skirt is stunning and I love your wig, looks so much like your real hair. Truly fabulous.
I love that you think about what matters most for the holiday season.<3

  5. We are the exact same – we don’t celebrate Christmas either. We end up at various gatherings and whatnot, but we opt out of the cards/gifts/etc. It simplifies life SO MUCH, and you can avoid the shops at this time of year.

  6. Ravishing in red, Patti!
We’re the same as you – low key, no religion, no decorating, no flash gifts and definitely no dead birds on the dinner table. We catch up with friends, watch films and wait for the madness to pass! xxx

  7. I love to see red ( I am wearing a red jumper as I type) Such a great, cheer me up in Winter colour. Red looks great on you Patti 🙂 Thanks for hosting.

  8. I always like you in red Patti , great knit and skirt. I can see why you wear boots any time you can. Christmas here is a very laid back affair – just good food and catching up with family.

  9. ON! Great pin! Rrravishing in red. I’ve been seeing red lately too, as in HOLIDAY red, not anger red. Christmas here is like most days, but we certainly are trying to stay focused on all the positive things in the world. So I guess it will be more of a Thanksgiving day than anything. Thanks for the linkup!

  10. You look very festive in red and I love the skirt! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! All three of my children were born within a month of Christmas, and I love decorating with garland and lights. Our home echos with Christmas music when we’re home and I love watching a Christmas movie every night, even when I get home late from my dance classes. I believe the message of Christmas even though we don’t actually know when Jesus was born. I do think there’s too much commercialism, and time spent with friends and family is more important!

  11. We are kinda the same way with the holidays. The 4 of us (both moms and hubby and I) try to spend the day together doing something fun instead of getting each other gifts, since we don’t need anything!! This year we are going to a small mountain town to hang out in the hot springs!!!
    Enjoy and you look fabulous!!

  12. You look lovely in red.
Christmas can be many things, depending on personal values. I don’t celebrate the religious aspects of Christmas, but we do decorate a bit (depending on whether we’re at home or travelling, of course), and there are special foods and presents. But as I and my husband grew up in different cultures/countries, we have a sort of buffet table approach to Christmas: pick and choose the traditions you like and try something new every once in a while.

  13. I adore red! It is by far my favourite colour… I’m thrilled to see it everywhere this year. I especially love it on a blonde… fab Patti! xx
