You like to mix it up, don’t you? Wear a dressy top with jeans, or a tee with a full swooshy skirt. Rugged boots with a midi dress and red lipstick with your pajamas (uh, I may be alone with that one). This month for My Refined Style I am blending tender and tough.

Welcome to an exciting link-up for us over-40 fashion lovers: My Refined Style, created by the lovely Shellie of The FABulous Journey. We’re hosting a link-up once a month, that all you 40+ beauties can participate in, and share the love. All you have to do is leave a link below, using the ever-familiar InLinkz tool, and mention My Refined Style in your post. Your link-up will be shared over six fab blogs, and Harpers Bazaar magazine (kidding, for now, about that last thing).

A new to me thrifted silk tank (similar) looks more grown up, less girly, with a modern zippered skirt.

Love the haphazard ruffles on this top. . .

. . . and the funky zippers on the skirt (sim). Cork wedge sandals are so comfortable (sim).

Women shouldn’t have to follow a set of rules once they reach a certain age. However, the over-40 woman does develop the confidence to refine her own personal style and that’s what My Refined Style is all about!

This monthly Linkup goes live on the first Thursday (12:00am ET) of every month on six blogs and runs for one week.

  1. I don’t have too many “tender” pieces in my wardrobe – there’s more of what I would call “tough”. The top is so pretty, and is a lovely contrast to the awesome edgey skirt (which I would wear in a minute).

  2. I love this tender/tough thing!!
I read an article probably a year ago about dichotomy in our outfits and it’s stuck ever since. My mom still gets appalled when I style her blog looks this way—but I think it’s more than fun!!
    Great skirt BTW!!

  3. A feminine top with an edgy skirt is one of my favorite looks, especially on you Patti! An Asymmetrical hemmakes me so happy! You look gorgeous!

  4. If I could, I would wear a suit every day. I’d want to be like Alicia Florrick or Claire Underwood, all dressed up all the time. That worked in the office; it felt good even just going out for lunch and looking sharp. Now I work from home and sometimes get dressed at 3 p.m. Plus I’m in a vacation destination (yeah, I live on vacation) and people are very, very casually dressed, even for things you’d think they’d dress up for. So I have to mix it up or I look inappropriately overdressed.
