Many of us, myself included, love to wear color. Vibrant colors pick us up, change our mood, and express a strong statement. Wearing all black is also expressive: I think it says “I’ve got this style thing.” Black exudes chic and cool, and makes a pleasing change-up from color. The women of this week’s Visible Monday had something to communicate in their black outfits, and as per usual, they inspire.
As always, the first tip is: wear black the way it feels right for you, and own your look. Confidence is all.
And there’s always room in my closet for some black treasures:
Gorgeous Glenda from So What To Twenty chose this tiered black dress by Isabel Marant that she found via eBay. The ruffles are dramatic and the black keeps it cool and chic. The black boots are statement-makers too:
Jessica of Elegantly Dressed And Stylish, does all black, with a hot pink scarf for accent. In her post, she gives great tips on how to wear black if you’re fair-skinned. That hair! is always gorgeous too:
Judith of Style Crone wears black (and everything else) so regally. Here’s her description of this stunning look: “Vintage suit and jewelry from estate sales, and vintage Norma Kamali fabric leopard print hat and gauntlets from my hat shop in the 80’s.” Bravo, and thanks for sharing the great pictures by photographer Denton Taylor.
Andrea of Andrea’s Wellness Notes is doing mostly-black here and looks so chic. The embroidered jeans stand out against the sophisticated and well-cut black jacket and boots:
I am on board with black this week too in a recently thrifted vintage 80’s dress and a sparkle-belt. I do love black with blond hair, and it’s so easy to throw a look together:
How do you like to wear your black? xo
Stay fabulous,
Here’s more statement-making pieces for any age, inspired by the Visible women:

thanks Jodie – I always look forward to your style ideas. xo
The 80’s dress looks marvelous on you Patti! I also like the tiered Isabel Marant dress. As you know, I have lots of black in my wardrobe and find it works best for me if the shape or fabric is unusual, or if I add pop of colour like bright tights so I don’t look too severe.
I love your style, and your tights collection. xo
For me, black is always spot on and both you and the other stylish black clad ladies are testament to this. Some say black is lazy and boring, a sentiment I have never really understood. It is about shape and texture and is also the perfect foil for accesories.
Not lazy or boring! Like you said, silhouette and texture and accessories make it all happen. xo
My pleasure, Jess- I love how you worked black into your colorful wardrobe and made it rock. xo
Thank you Patti, for the inclusion alongside these blogger beauties wearing black. Yourself included! Black is always a favorite of mine, and so easy to accessorize.
My pleasure Judith. xo
Yes I do. And black with white is a favourite too.

I really like your black and white outfits. xo
Patti, you are so sweet to feature me here with all of the other lovely ladies in black. It is something I don’t gravitate toward as I like color more on myself, but learn certain tricks. Adore the ruffles on Glenda, the elegant look on Judith, Andrea’s fun and trendy embroidered look and of course, you . I love how you styled this tunic with tights and boots.. thanks again! xx
