Enjoying Asymmetry Over 40: Visible Monday

There’s something about asymmetry that really appeals to my style sense. It’s a little unexpected. Why have your hem go straight across when it can duck and swoop and expose a knee? And asymmetry looks splendid on any age or shape woman.

This black knit dress from Diane Gilman (similar) touches the floor, so I usually tie it up in a knot (no falling!!). It’s my default airplane dress, as you can layer over it easily and it’s super-soft for travel. It was a gift from the designer, who’s known for her great stretch jeans at the Home Shopping Network. 


 
The floral top by MANGO (sim) was thrifted in downtown Melbourne. It’s oversized but I crave that look more and more as I get older. Loose and free and flowy is my jam. And navy with black, loving that too. The floral boots are by Doc Marten (sim) and they go everywhere! I added a turquoise colored stone bracelet (sim) but I didn’t need it; the floral print was accent enough.

What you see is what you get ☺.  I decide in the morning how I feel and how to dress, and listen only to you, my fashion sisters, and my own heart.

The only other fashion blog I look at is Extra Petite http://www.extrapetite.com/, which suggest the fashion double-whammy I’m facing: I’m a just-turned-60 XXS/00P ex-punk-hippie-cowgirl. Nearly everything that fits me (Forever 21, Asos) is styled and cut for a 14-year-old. L Crew and the ‘nana ‘public factory store have clothes that fit me, but… snooze. Patti and readers, any tiny gear tips would be MOST appreciated.

  39. Asymmetrical is tops in my books too. It’s a bit harder as far as design but much less predicable that perfect symmetry. I agree it’s important to listen to our inner-sense. It usually tells me what is really best for me as far as style, at least.
    And as far as style, I hope you let us have a glimpse of those Helmut Lang T-Shirts you scored this week!
