There’s something about asymmetry that really appeals to my style sense. It’s a little unexpected. Why have your hem go straight across when it can duck and swoop and expose a knee? And asymmetry looks splendid on any age or shape woman.

Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Link back to Not Dead Yet Style if you like – we’re on Easy Does It “rules” now!

This black knit dress from Diane Gilman (similar) touches the floor, so I usually tie it up in a knot (no falling!!). It’s my default airplane dress, as you can layer over it easily and it’s super-soft for travel. It was a gift from the designer, who’s known for her great stretch jeans at the Home Shopping Network.

The floral top by MANGO (sim) was thrifted in downtown Melbourne. It’s oversized but I crave that look more and more as I get older. Loose and free and flowy is my jam. And navy with black, loving that too. The floral boots are by Doc Marten (sim) and they go everywhere! I added a turquoise colored stone bracelet (sim) but I didn’t need it; the floral print was accent enough.

What you see is what you get ☺.  I decide in the morning how I feel and how to dress, and listen only to you, my fashion sisters, and my own heart.

Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women.

The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple:

    1. Whoever wants to can join in! Just compose a post that includes any outfit, accessory, piece of jewelry, hairstyle, cosmetic or other adornment that makes you feel more confident, alive and visible that day.
    2. Go to the bottom of this post and click on the InLinkz button “Add Your Link”. It should open a new page.
    3. In the “Next Step”, you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you’re done!
    4. Visit a few other bloggers, to make new friends and increase your own following.

  1. Patti, I just happened across your blog and I’m glad I did. Great style, great attitude! The only other fashion blog I look at is Extra Petite http://www.extrapetite.com/, which suggest the fashion double-whammy I’m facing: I’m a just-turned-60 XXS/00P ex-punk-hippie-cowgirl. Nearly everything that fits me (Forever 21, Asos) is styled and cut for a 14-year-old. L Crew and the ‘nana ‘public factory store have clothes that fit me, but… snooze. Patti and readers, any tiny gear tips would be MOST appreciated.

  2. Diane Gilman speaks to comfort and inclusiveness in fashion. I have items from her designs and enjoy her spunk!

  3. Those Docs were made for walkin’! And I love the visual interest of asymmetry. This dress looks like a perfect travel piece but a great dress-up/down piece when you get there too. I love that you got it directly from the designer. Thanks for hosting your linkup!

  4. I think asymmetry adds a dynamic feeling to an outfit, and fashion is all about movement! I love how you combined this dress with floral sweater and boots. You look fun and fantastic, Patti! <3

  5. Great look, Patti! I love a asymmetric hem, too! It adds so much interest to a piece. And those shoes are just fabulous! The whole look just says “Patti” – and that’s a very good thing!

  6. I love the asymmetrical style…i’ts actually one of the hottest trends this spring. The skirt looks fab on you, Patti!

  8. Great layered look! The asymmetrical hemline is fun and I like the idea of knotting it. The touches of floral are quite pretty!

  9. The edginess with which you wear these florals is beaming and beautiful in a shocking way. Looking great! Love the combat flower boots.

  10. Oh so darling, Patti! I love the drama and interest created by some asymmetry! And of course, your floral Doc Martens have me all in a swoon. I actually just styled my brown floral ones because I love when you showcase yours and mine were hiding in the back of the closet! I had to get them out. Thanks for inspiring me!

  12. I love Diane Gilman’s stuff – I have a couple of her things (thrifted) and really enjoy them. I love asymmetry in clothing – and you are rockin’ it, Patti! Sorry I missed you last week!

  13. Love an asymmetrical hem , I agree why do straight when this is an option. Love it with your dark florals. Many thanks for hosting Visible Monday.

  14. Asymmetry isn’t for me but it is for you and that’s all that matters. You look absolutely wonderful. Loving the double florals! xxx

  16. I love asymmetry on others I just can’t seem to make it work for myself.

Those boots are like stepping in a field of flowers daily.

  17. Patti, I too adore asymmetrical hemlines as well as seams that criss and cross, all appearing to add movement to an otherwise static image. Those are the types of details that delight and keep the eye bouncing and interested in the visual. As always, your creative spin offers oodles of inspiration and you look fantastic.

  18. Asymmetrical is tops in my books too. It’s a bit harder as far as design but much less predicable that perfect symmetry. I agree it’s important to listen to our inner-sense. It usually tells me what is really best for me as far as style, at least.
And as far as style, I hope you let us have a glimpse of those Helmut Lang T-Shirts you scored this week!

  19. I ageee Patti, asymmetry is so flattering and flowy makes it even better! Very pretty outfit, feels Springy! Have a wonderful week!
