It’s sometimes a challenge to come up with a fresh outfit idea, especially with a small closet. That’s when we need to try the unexpected look, like a glittery knit top over an old favorite dress. And a sassy attitude.
Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Please be kind and leave a link to Not Dead Yet Style in your post. |
I just found this gold, glittery top (similar) at the thrift for a couple of dollars. I don’t usually like bling attached to my clothes, but I’m making a happy exception here. The flowy dress underneath is a Karina Mia, worn many times on its own – feels like silk, machine wash and drip dry. The old booties (sim) are by funky brand Cydwoq, and the pendant (sim) was thrifted in NYC. The vintage bracelet (sim) is via Citizen Rosebud, check out their stuff here.
Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women.
The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple:
-
- Whoever wants to can join in! Just compose a post that includes any outfit, accessory, piece of jewelry, hairstyle, cosmetic or other adornment that makes you feel more confident, alive and visible that day.
- Include a link to Not Dead Yet Style somewhere in your post.
- Go to the bottom of this post and click on the InLinkz button “Add Your Link”. It should open a new page.
- In the “Next Step”, you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you’re done!
Oh hey! Not Dead Yet Style is on Instagram! Please check it out when you have a moment: Instagram.
Stay fabulous,
I’ve layered a top over a dress several times – it’s an easy way to get a different look. There’s no rules when it comes with playing with your clothes 😉
The top is really pretty! You’re so good at thrifting! Thanks for hosting, hope you have a great week 🙂

I really love this outfit Patti. I’m a little reluctant to wear too much sparkle on my clothing too. I DO like it on other people though and I recently bought a sequined top at a consignment shop. I just have to work up the guts to wear it!! Your top is subtley sequined and has an Indian/Sari vibe. I LOVE THOSE booties!!! You look smashing Patti!
Love the brown and burgundy tones on you Patti and such cool boots. I have been doing on-line thrifting a poshmark. You can find deals 🙂 I have a cardi with jewels on it the only one I own.
See you when I get back.from my trip

This outfit looks so beautiful on you. The blouse just adds fun to the outfit. And true, attitude makes all the difference.

I love wearing a dress as a skirt! And the embellishments on that top are so lovely 🙂
I’m diggin’ the brown, especially with the glittery bits. Gazing out for lunch. Hahaha! Too right. I’m gazing off waiting for dinner, only several hours away. Thanks for the linkup – I’m happy to make it.
I’m such a fan of getting more use out of my dresses, I love that you put the glittery top over it and I’m loving the Cydwoq booties – one of my favorite brands. Thank you for hosting!

I think the gold in this top is wonderful with your hair colour.

I’m not averse to a bit of bling for everyday wear and I think this gold and brown combination works a treat. Many thanks for the link up party again x

Hey Patti! I’ve tried that a couple of times and it really expands your wardrobe. Especially if you have a dress that doesn’t look the greatest on the top or is maybe too tight in places. You can just cover it with a shirt and now you have a new skirt. Happy first day of spring!
Yes! Shopping my closet is ever so helpful because it gets the creative juices flowing. Some of my best looks were derived from pairing unexpected pieces together. You look great!
I love metallic for everyday, and your top is so pretty and exotic! 🙂
I love layering over a dress. It can really change the look of a dress.
I really like this look, Patti! The sparkly top looks great with the dress!
Thanks for the link up & have a great week!
I too try this combination from time to time. Nice top and looks lovely over the dress. And I love your booties!
Love this idea, Patti and have to admit I’ve done it several times myself 🙂 Really like the casual ease of your look. The top is so pretty and the booties are perfect!
Have a great week!

I have a thing for layering over dresses, well over anything really. The more pattern or texture the better. In fact I feel underdressed if ive only one layer on haha.
Thanks for letting us play along Patti

I love the design of your top Patti 🙂 Dresses are usually more comfy than skirts, so I layer tops over dresses as well – I just need to find more dresses!

I love it!!
I’m not usually a bling attached to clothing girl either, but I love the sweater…and the layering is spot on. Those booties are beyond fabulous!

I remember the first time I saw this, from the Glamourai, back when she was just starting out, and it was a revelation. It sure makes dresses more useful.
You look wonderful in your shades of burnished bronze (brown sounds far too pedestrian!) Hope lunch was worth the wait! xxx
A very relaxed and elegant outfit Patti, I love the blingy top! What a great find.
Gail
Great idea that I do often. You know how I love skirts, so even the dress can become skirts, lol
Much love, dear Patti
The gold top suits you Patti! It has a bit of an ethnic vibe to it which is lovely 🙂
Thank you for hosting, have a great week!

I love this trick, Patti!! It seems so obvious once you do it a couple of times, but I remember the first time I saw it, and it was like a light bulb went off!!
And who doesn’t love sparkles??

Totally agree, a sassy attitude can take you so far! And the unexpected is such a fun and creative way to expand our wardrobes. Seriously love this look you beautiful lady.
It’s a pretty top, and sometimes a little bit of bling can be fun. And I can totally relate to the challenges posed by a small wardrobe… at this point (of late winter) I feel that I’ve shown every single piece in my wardrobe so many times on the blog that my readers must be bored to seeing them. I know I am. But maybe that’s just me being tired of winter…
That’s a very pretty blouse and I’m lovin’ the brown!
I love thrifting too! You can find such unique things.
Thanks for hosting!
Have a fashionable week!
