The Six Best Skirts For Summer

In Southern summer, comfort = clothing ventilation, and it’s the key to happiness. That means loose, not skin-tight tanks and tees, and easy linen trousers rather than skinny jeans. My personal favorite summer uniform is a flow-y skirt with a cotton or linen tee. It’s not the time for my fab-but-heavy embroidered denim skirt, but rather a skirt that flips and floats. Just add sandals and lemonade.

 

Florals are always welcome in summer. A small subtle print or a bold one, like this one below, is summer perfection with a tee or linen shirt. If you are bold, wear a striped sailor tee with a bold floral skirt.

Show some leg. Maybe you don’t like your skirts cut up to there, but a multi-length hem like this one is cool and feminine. I don’t show my belly to anyone but my husband and dermatologist, but you can make your own call on that one.  : >

Let some knee peek out from this high-low hemline skirt in a delicate print.

White and ivory linen are the stars of summer skirts. I encourage you to welcome the wrinkles and make them part of that  intentionally rumpled look. Who wants to iron in summer (or any season)?

This A-line linen skirt looks breezy. I’d wear mine with refined sneakers and bead jewelry.

Tell a story with an unexpected print that only works in summer. I love the sailboats on this skirt, and here’s another whimsical-but-not-crazy print.

Go shorter. This above-the-knee length is easy to wear if your skirt has some fullness. The linen is cool and refined.

An above the knee skirt lets your legs breathe. Don’t get me started on self-tanner, though – it’s always a disaster on my pasty skin. Pale is in!

If you prefer to be covered yet cool, try a wrap maxi skirt in a light print or stripe. I’d wear chunky-heel sandals with this one.

A wrap ankle-length skirt is still comfortable and modest.

  1. Our forecast is for some really hot weather starting this weekend so I will definitely be relying on dresses and skirts to get me through. I do have loose linen pants, but when it’s really hot, I like the extra air circulation that a skirt allows.

  5. I always love your skirt/tee combinations, Patti. That maxi-wrap skirt you shared above is my absolute favorite. I could see that with a crisp white tee and, like you said, chunky sandals. (If only they made it in my size, I’d be on it!!)
