Make-it-Special Pieces; Vis Monday Reminder

In one of my many fashion/style books I found a recommendation that makes sense to me, a near-minimalist: Choose a couple of items that make you feel special, and elevate your everyday outfits to something distinctly you.

These are the pieces that take our outfits from OK to memorable, confident, ready-for-anything. And it’s much more budget friendly to fall in love with a scarf than with a whole new wardrobe every season. Examples of special pieces could include:

• A piece of statement jewelry, especially a piece that has meaning for you. Like this super-cool “Magic Loupe” created by an artist/sculptor (who’s also related to the wonderful Melanie of Bag And A Beret.)

• A purse that elevates your style, even if you’re wearing jeans and a graphic tee. I love this multi-color velvet bag for Fall/Winter:

• A magnificent scarf or wrap with your best colors, that you can toss on any day for instant style. Like this one for the cooler months, that can be worn around the neck, as a wrap, or to snuggle on the couch with a good mystery.

It was easy for me to choose one of my look-makers: my unruly hair. When it’s humid I get a big mop around my head and I like it (even though my hair is thinning, a little hairspray and a little humidity hide the evidence).

Maybe your special piece is a belt, pair of earrings, a fragrance, or even a statement lipstick. I can’t picture Paloma Picasso without her red lips.
