Yellow Brick Road

I hardly own a single wardrobe piece in yellow! I have one skinny yellow belt. Is there some Holden Caulfield in me?

It’s no fun to be yellow. Maybe I’m not all yellow. I don’t know. I think maybe I’m just partly yellow and partly the type that doesn’t give much of a damn if they lose their gloves.
-J. D. Salinger

The Traveling Yellow Skirt is glorious, however, and you have to go see it today at Hello the Mushroom. Sara has added her magical, salted touch.

I gave yellow a go. Remember Everybody, Everywhere? It was a series in which you’d link up your look according to a style theme. When it was Everybody, Wear . . . Yellow, I thrifted a yellow tee right quick so I could participate.

The picture from 2011 reminds me why yellow next to my face is not my friend. I love the look, vibe, and energy of the color yellow, though. I adore a yellow print bedcover, pillow, or throw in our apartment, for example:

Trina Turk decorative pillows.
“Yellow is a very favorable vibration for mental or intellectual activity, as it promotes a clear state of mind. Yellow heightens your awareness and alleviates depression, sadness, or any kind of despondency.”
― Tae Yun Kim, The First Element: Secrets to Maximizing Your Energy

It’s a wonderful starring color in a print maxi skirt:

Or solo, in playful sandals:
Or in a feminine bracelet:

  1. Yellow is not my favorite, but a touche of yellow for brighten up an outfit, why not?
    Even a great idea.

    Joly Look

  2. As an English teacher, I really appreciate the literary quotes! 😉 You're adorable!

  3. Hi Patti!
Slowly coming back to commenting more often
I will comment here on all the posts i have seen
Love yellow and looks ok on you, why do you say it doesn't look good?
I love how you wear that maxi skirt, love the belt that is a nice touch, i will remember to do that –
About your knees, i love your knees, i love the idea of you wearing shorter skirts or dresses , you have ballerina legs!

    Take care

  4. I like you in the yellow! It's one of my favorite colors. Your skirt is really pretty and I love it with the belt.

  5. Lllllove yyyyellow – as you know. You look smashing in yellow, Patti, especially in this photo. I notice a pool-ish type thing there, or jacuzzi. Let's see some photos of you floating about in it with fruity drinks and umbrellas. Or not? Thanks for the Yellow Skirt mention! Sara's contribution is perfect.

  6. I don't mind yellow in a print. I adore it as a color. But it looks awful on me. Just awful. And the shades/tones I tend to wear don't really lend themselves well to yellow.

  7. I love yellow but it's not my friend next to my face either. It doesn't look bad on you, just perhaps not doing amazing things for you. I usually find that other people are not as critical as we are of ourselves in yellow. That's what it's like for me. I love the items you've found that feature some yellow and I think wearing it away from the face is a good idea. I love the idea of yellow summer shoes or sandals, a yellow belt or a bit of yellow in a patterned skirt.

  8. I'm with Vix and think you look fabulous in yellow. I'm willing to give any color a try! Experimenting with color is one of the joys of life!

  9. I'm like you and not too keen on yellow right next to my face although I must say you are looking stunning in that photo and I really don't see it washing you out at all. I think the little bit of black at the neckline saved you.

    That bracelet is gorgeous.

  10. Yellow in solo isn't a favorite for me either. I own a pair of pant and a sweater which I rarely wear. But there is yellow in some of the prints I wear.

  11. Yes, there are colors I'm attracted to but they're not attracted to me and yellow would be one of those on me as well. I do love all things yellow because they seem so clean and fresh.
I actually love how you doubled your lemon tee with the black, it was a perfect combination especially with that beautiful skirt. I think you proved its ok to wear those colors which we love once in a while.

  12. Yellow isn't my color but I make up for it by wearing it's cousin green a lot.

  13. I always think blondes look fabulous in yellow. Isn't it funny how so many people say it doesn't suit them? I don't see it at all, I think you look great! I love yellow, such a happy and vivacious colour. xxx

  14. I only learnt to love yellow when i went over to the dark side, you prove blondes look fabulous in it, too! Love those boots. xxx

  15. I am big on the color Yellow this year, love it on you, it brightens you and you look lovely. I also am a huge fan of florals, love this skirt!xx jess

  16. I love the yellow on you! It didn't used to be my friend either, but with aging (ahem, change in skin tone) it works better on me now. Keep trying new things…you look great!

  17. I probably have one yellow item in my entire wardrobe. It just doesn't work well for me. Although the one item I do have is a very BRIGHT yellow and works better than the pale yellows. I like yellow. She just doesn't like me.

  18. The warmth of yellow appears to be very flattering for your complexion. You look radiant! I had an old friend who used to say "Wear yellow, catch a fellow." 🙂 Susan from FiftynotFrumpy.

  19. I love the yellow top on you. I never used to wear yellow but I can't get enough of it now. It's so cheery! I have a wall in my house painted yellow too!

  20. I think you look beautiful in yellow, Patti! Great outfit! I love pretty much anything yellow, always have. I love lavender but it's hideous next to my face, so I do shoes and skirts!

  21. I love yellow, especially yellow sandals! The ones you features are so cute!
