This week I had the honor of having my pictures taken by NYC fashion photographer Denton Taylor. Not only is Denton a delightful person, who’s lived in NYC all his life, he’s a tireless and talented photographer. He “sees” so many things that my eye misses. We had lunch together – octopus salad for Denton and I declined a taste. But I do admire his sense of adventure, and I wore my octopus necklace (similar).

Always room in my closet for black tops:

Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Please be kind and leave a link to Not Dead Yet Style in your post.

My simple walking-around outfit consists of a newly thrifted cotton skirt by Chaiken (sim) and (my favorite find of the week) a black knit top by Stella McCartney (humble brag – I paid $39). It’s so soft and well-made. You’ll no doubt be seeing it a lot on the blog, and I will be wearing the tag on the outside.

Denton’s photos are so crisp, well-placed and well-lit. I am inspired, if not prepared financially, to invest in a “real” camera.

    2. Include a link to Not Dead Yet Style somewhere in your post.
    3. Go to the bottom of this post and click on the InLinkz button “Add Your Link”. It should open a new page.
    4. In the “Next Step”, you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you’re done!

  1. Soon Denton will have photographed all of the bloggers we know! He and his wife Teresa are very nice, and I enjoyed meeting them when I was in New York last fall.
I would have taken the octopus necklace over the octopus salad anytime 😉

  2. Black and white is always a good idea, look so chic and effortless!
I just started a linkup too and would love it if you join.
    Come take a look at CidStyleFile.com #UntamedStyle

    Thanks
    Veronica

  3. So wonderful that got out for lunch and some photos with Denton. He is so much fun!

What a score on the top! You should get a thrifting badge of honour for that.

    bisous
    Suzanne

  4. Patti, nice score on the Stella McCartney top. Love it! And how fun to have a pro photographer shoot you in it. He captured your chic NYC look very nicely.

  5. Enjoy your stay in NYC Patti. Too bad we will not be able to meet up this time! 🙂 I am going to be there at the end of August. Yay, summer heat 😉 This clean style suits you so well and that photoshoot must have been such fun! xo Sabina

  6. You look stunning in your fabulous new thrifted top. The photos by Denton are gorgeous, but then, so are you. I agree with everything you said about him and he’s so very generous.

  7. OH Patti, the photos are wonderful!!! You look radiant in them! The Stella top is STELLAR (ho ho- not sorry!) and what a bargain!!! I’m so sorry I haven’t played for ages, just haven’t seemed to have posted any outfits on a Monday for ages!! Very nice to be back!!x

  8. How wonderful to meet talented people! Great photos, Patti. Your elegant and comfortable look is very NYC in my book! 🙂
You don’t need to invest a lot into a good camera. We are looking for a new camera, and it is only $250 or so – an upgraded version of our camera which has really good lens.

  9. I love a good black top, it’s the staple of my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Have a lovely week and thank you for the linkup 🙂

  10. ooo, octopi. Good call on your part, Patti. Appreciating them aesthetically is another thing altogether thing. Denton’s taste, on the other hand, in photography is above excellent. Is that a linen skirt I spy below that lovely black top? Very well done, Patti.

  11. You look gorgeous Patti! Denton is such a wonderful photographer and such a nice, generous person too! Cheers, Deborah – Fabulous After 40

  13. Patti although I love the photos my husband takes I always love seeing what other photographers “do” with me(!) – it’s interesting how the results can be so different! Love your octopus necklace 🙂

Thank you for hosting, have a lovely week

  14. That ain’t no imitation, Patti. That’s the real deal I’m lookin’ at. Heh. Bad ass indeed. Yeah! How fun that you got to meet up with Denton! These are great photos. You must be having a great time. Thanks for fitting in your linkup party!

  15. The photos are great, but I like the ones your hubby makes too. Thanks for introducing me to the Karina dresses! I love them.

  16. I think your photos are always nice and crisp Patti. And as usual a classic in classy neutrals.

    Happy Monday!

  17. Great photos! A good camera is worth the investment, but only if you’re willing to put in the time to learn how to use it…

  18. Why can’t we all have professional photographers doing our pictures? You look fabulous! I am envious of that sweet top (what a score!) – I need more fun black tops. Such basics! Thank you for hosting, Patti!

  19. Very cute! I told you skilled photographers can perform magic. It’s not merely the (better) cameras they use; it’s that they’re trained to understand lighting which is 90% of photography.

  20. That top was a great score! I would love to invest in a better camera too, but it’s not in the cards right now I’m afraid. 🙂

  21. Patti, these photo’s are fabulous! But then again, you are one beautiful lady which makes it easy for a photographer. I just began following Denton on Instragram and love his work.

  22. I’d pass on the octopus salad too. On another note, you look striking in black. Have a great week.

  23. Lucky you finding Stella McCartney for $39! You can brag all you like about that. Like you, I can always find room for a black top (or a black anything, really!). xx

  24. I love black tops! They are so easy to wear with almost anything and work well for the office too.
Have a great time in New York, Patti, my daughter will be over there soon!

    xx
