Easy Does It; The New Visible Monday

Ever since I found it at the Monk Vintage Shop in Greenwich Village, I’ve been absorbed in this little book (only 84 pages): Living Sober by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services. I haven’t ever struggled with alcohol, grateful for that, but I do have unhealthy habits I am working to change: the typical Type A perfectionist behaviors that are no longer needed in my post-work world.

I felt I should order a coffee while reading this book.

So, one of my favorite chapters in the book is about the long-time A.A. slogan “Easy does it.” The book says:

“The slogan ‘Easy does it’ is one way we A.A.’s remind each other that many of us have tendencies at times to overdo things, to rush heedlessly along, impatient with anything that slows us down. We find it hard to relax and savor life.”

We can find ourselves living and dying by our daily or weekly “lists.” Sometimes we cant’ relax until every item is checked off (hint: it’s healthier to make short lists that are achievable in a day, like “Drink coffee,” “Read favorite blogs,” and “Do 30 minutes of exercise.”) Those of you with young kids and full-time jobs, and homes to manage do have longer lists, I feel you. But we can all take a breath and remember that “Easy does it.”

Along these lines, today I’m changing the guidelines for Visible Monday. smiling-emoticon-square-face_318-58645  I’m no longer asking participants to link to the Not Dead Yet Style blog in your post, and please feel free to leave a comment or not, it’s all good. I had a chat with myself along the lines of “This is a fun bloggy thing, and I want everyone to feel free to drop by and visit.” Fewer “rules” means more fun and festivity for all of us who enjoy the link-party.

Stay fabulous, take it easy, and see you at the new “Easy does it” Visible Monday,

Reminder: Visible Monday starts Sunday around 5PM. You are invited to share your favorite outfit, accessory, hairstyle or lipstick of the week – anything that made you feel Visible. Be there for the best blogger party and the finest style on the webz!

  1. Hi to every body, it’s my first pay a quick visit of this website; this weblog includes awesome and actually fine information designed for readers.|

  2. I wish to live this way every day Patti but sometimes the urge to go OTT takes over and leaves me totally exhausted. I liked that you dropped some link-up rules. That’s said, I will continue to read your posts and leave my comments because you always have some interesting thoughts to share with us

  3. I love this post . And I agree completely with the advice. Many of us do struggle with perfectionist tendencies, and that can complicate our lives so needlessly. I hope you have a wonderful sunny week.

  4. Wonderful message, Patti. AA has other helpful words for non-members. My mum found comfort in the AA Serenity Prayer when she was a single mom of four whose marriage had broken down due to my father’s alcoholism. “Accept the things we cannot change”… being the part that gave her courage and confidence I think.
And speaking of confidence. Good for you to banish some of the link-up rules. I’ve seen link-ups which require bloggers to link back (which is not an issue for me) but also to follow the blogs of several hosts, as well as on numerous media (FB, Twitter, and IG.) And I’ve thought… nah… too many hoops to jump through. But you have the confidence to just welcome us, with no strings attached. That’s amazing!

  5. Great messages and reminders, Patti. I, like you, am one of those Type A’s but I can now make a list each day (and I still believe a list is a good thing, goals are good) BUT I can now accept that, for whatever reason/s, I may not always complete the tasks on the list and it’s just fine – there’s always tomorrow and I just transfer the not completed tasks to the next day (or the day after…) and I find that by the end of the week I actually have completed the list, no stress and enjoying myself. Best wishes, enjoy it all. Elizabeth. xx

  6. Well I hope this in turn means that you can cut back on your work load. I can’t imagine how much effort doing this link up must take every week.

You probably look back on that summer that you took off with very fond memories.

    bisous

  7. Patti, great little phrase to live by. And I can totally relate, hence my continuing downsizing of my biz. So my “to do” lists have become much shorter and with that I’ve become so much less frazzled. I would always still link back to your VM post, since you are kind enough to accept my outfit posts on your blog.

  8. Great message Patti as we head into the weekend… we all need to take a step back and take a breather sometimes – and summer is the perfect time. That said, I will continue to link your link-up in my posts because it’s my favorite fun link up of the week, and I hope by linking it on my posts others will find you off my site and join the party! On the flip side, by making Visible Monday easier for others to participate, perhaps even more will join the fun!
