How To Invite More Beauty Into Your Life

“Beauty, beauty guards thy looks.”

The above lyrics are four hundred years old, from the poem “My Life’s Delight.” I’m learning several songs by Roger Quilter, a twentieth century composer who set to music Renaissance sonnets and verses. Sounds obscure, I know, but so elegant and beautiful. Here is tenor Branko Lovrinov giving life to one of Quilter’s songs:

And for some visual beauty, I enjoy scanning the newest runway looks; they’re now showing “Spring” but no matter. Not much looks wearable for a midlife woman right off the runway, but the shapes, prints and colors inspire. These two coats are stunning, for example, and the black feathered dress is pure glamour:

The ivory and beige outfit (Jil Sander) is clean and fresh, with a to-die-for hat. I’m also crazy for a novelty print (Sacai), punked up with fishnet socks:

Life has been challenging here lately, with Sandy’s emergency appendectomy and my mother’s move to Assisted Living (she’s unhappy about it). Resting eyes and ears on beauty is a tonic.

Stay fabulous, and dwell on the beautiful,

  9. First off, I really like the blog re-design – very clean and easy to read! I’m sorry to hear about the recent challenges in your life. I hope Sandy recovers quickly – will you be postponing your trip?
My mother sold her house two years ago and moved into an assisted living apartment and hated it. Every conversation was a list of complaints. Then she found a place in another small town closer to me, and she seems to like it much better, but it took her a long time to adjust to not living in her own place anymore. It is difficult for us to watch our parents be unhappy, especially when they are nearing the end of their lives.
About the dresses – I think a number of us bloggers could wear that feathered dress as long as it fit properly. It has a nice length and isn’t too low in the neck. Of course, as to whether we would have an occasion to wear it is another matter ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Thank you Shelley, our situations with our mothers sound similar. It does hurt, and makes me feel helpless at times. We are still planning on going to NYC, if I have to bring a nurse with us, I will! xox

    • thanks Curtise! I hate to admit it too, but everything takes a little longer. xox

  11. All the best to the three of you. Medical mayhem is hard on the head for everyone, whether you’re the one in need or the one standing by. And yes, beauty is good for the soul. Helps refresh your mind. Take care.

  12. I’m so sorry to hear about your Mum, I know how horrible that it. Poor Sandy, too. Hope he’s well on the road to recovery very soon.
Great idea to surround yourself with beauty when things are a bit ugly.
Hope life gets better very soon. xxxx

    • thanks so much Vix. The doctor said Sandy’s recovery is slow “due to his age.” Smack!
