“Beauty, beauty guards thy looks.”
The above lyrics are four hundred years old, from the poem “My Life’s Delight.” I’m learning several songs by Roger Quilter, a twentieth century composer who set to music Renaissance sonnets and verses. Sounds obscure, I know, but so elegant and beautiful. Here is tenor Branko Lovrinov giving life to one of Quilter’s songs:
And for some visual beauty, I enjoy scanning the newest runway looks; they’re now showing “Spring” but no matter. The ivory and beige outfit (Jil Sander) is clean and fresh, with a to-die-for hat. I’m also crazy for a novelty print (Sacai), punked up with fishnet socks:
Life has been challenging here lately, with Sandy’s emergency appendectomy and my mother’s move to Assisted Living (she’s unhappy about it). Resting eyes and ears on beauty is a tonic.
Stay fabulous, and dwell on the beautiful,
