Help A Blogger Accessorize?

Some days I can be a lazy dresser. And that’s OK for some days, as I am retired, I volunteer in a thrift store, and don’t represent any Famous Brands as I bike around town. On this day, though, I had some good starting material, and did not make it to home plate. Must accessorize.

The semi-sheer cotton top (similar) is recently thrifted, and I love the weight for Florida Spring. The suede ruffle-hem skirt (sim) is also thrifted and a nice quality piece by Chicos. They work together fine, but what do you think is needed to make this outfit an “A” instead of a “C+”?

need to accessorize

Looking perfectly nice, but – dare I say it – boring.

Here are some ideas I came up with and I’d love hear if you have any. I don’t wear earrings often as my hair hides them, and I left out bracelets for this look, because the long sleeves would obscure them.

Neckerchief. A long scarf might work, but would interfere with the details on the blouse. So maybe a small silk square, knotted at the throat or back of the neck.

neck scarf

This looks very cool: a beaded scarf folded just so, and tied in the back. Great with a vee neckline.

Multi long necklaces. A couple of chains, and or pendants would add interest to the blouse. Nothing too “statement”, just a feminine addition to the feminine blouse.

multiple chains

I like the layered necklaces trend, and I think my plain blouse would look better with these.

Lightweight patterned tights. This is my favorite tip for upgrading this outfit. A pair of tights like these would change up the whole look:

Leather peep-toe wedges. A medium heel would be flattering with this skirt, and showing one’s toes is always more fun.

These leather wedges are just an inch too tall for me, but some of you like to rock a high wedge, on a substantial platform.

My PicMonkey attempt. Fail.

  1. It’s hard for me to leave the house without accessories—talk about the nut not falling far from the tree (basically I blame my mother–ha ha).
So, of course I would recommend some necklace or small scarf and earrings!!
You should wear this again with some of the options & compare them side by side for us?? 🙂

    • Thanks for your ideas, Jodie – yes your family are great accessorizers! xox

  2. Earrings for sure. I like the patterned tights but how about red to go with the top? No opinion about shoes though I do like the pair you have on.

  3. I so suck at accessorizing and wish I could wear lots more. Your smiles and sunnies are making a statement here, just do you. . .

  4. I would update the skirt by removing that ruffle and making it a pencil skirt. I would tuck in the blouse, add a belt, change the shoes to a nude pump and some bastard massive jewelry as Vix would say.
Have a great St. Paddy’s Day Patti!

  5. Ha ha! That pic monkey photo is hilarious : )

I think the only thing needed is a turquoise bracelet and a smile…you’ve already got it half covered.

Love the colour of the top on you.

  6. The neckline already has business going on – I would do a long pair of turquoise earrings, maybe a long skinny scarf tied in your hair! I’d be more inclined to do a hippie-style hip belt (a chain belt or one with turquoise would be awesome). Love these basic pieces, Patti! That red is smashing on you.
