Define The Waist: Real Life Fashion Show

It’s our choice whether to highlight our waists or not. I go either way – waist emphasizing or surrendering – from day to day. And every body shape can choose to define the waist, if they feel like it – size and shape don’t restrict us from wearing outfits we love. The women of this week’s Visible Monday demonstrate and inspire with their waist-defining looks:
As always, the first tip is: create a waistline if you’re in that mood , and own your look. Confidence is all.

And there’s always room in my closet for a waist-fitted skirt or dress:

Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun chose one of my favorite designers – a Karina wrap dress. Dawn Lucy looks fantastic showing off her waist here. Lots of Karina dresses have a waist-defining cut and are made for all sizes and shapes. Love that bag too, Dawn Lucy.

Laurie of Vanity And Me uses shapes and color to define her waist. Here Laurie is all in black, with a vivid orange top that stops right at the waist. We can use color to highlight our waists, even if the fit is relaxed. Color creates a great contrast that makes this outfit sing.

Fabulous Sacramento of Mis Papelicos wears a sweater with faux-fur accents, and shows off her waist with a cool belt. Belts are an easy way to make a waist, and add interest to any look.

Tamera of Tamera Beardsley is elegant and inspiring in her creamy neutrals. She uses the hem of her wrap sweater to create a flattering waistline. Oh, and how about those incredible pearls?

Samantha of Fake Fabulous chose a Louche dress (you have to click through and see the back!) with a built-in waistband that really gives her outfit structure and personality. Great layering too and those gloves are incredibly cool.

  1. Patti, I love how you describe the Visible Women’s outfits—and how you see commonalities for your readers to consider. Always fun, too!
