All neutrals – black, white, navy, charcoal, brown, ivory – play well together, and that frees up a whole lot of style opportunities. It’s fun to break old rules about not mixing certain neutrals, like navy and brown for example, because it can be done! And adding color with a scarf, hat or bag makes the outfit all the merrier.

Welcome to Visible Monday. If you want to participate, it’s so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the how-to. Link back to Not Dead Yet Style if you like – we’re on Easy Does It “rules” now!

I’m a huge neutrals person, especially black, navy, and dark grey, with shots of ivory and denim. Today I blended a true navy shift dress (similar) with a brown/cream animal print sweater (sim), black tights, and my lively Cydwoq print booties (sim).

We had not-so-great light for photos today – this dress is really navy.

I added a long bead necklace made by a friend, and a vintage bracelet from Citizen Rosebud‘s shop. The black-and-white pic below shows that any combination of neutrals can look fab – the dress could be chocolate brown and the sweater navy or black, it’s all good. Even ceramic kitty went neutral for this outing. I’m sporting my natural hair again today; it’s getting healthier after a rough post-surgery shed.

Neutral kitty has no opinion.

Now, let’s see what’s in your closet, Visible Women.

  1. You may be wearing neutrals Patti , but this outfit is energetic and on point. I love the pattern booties and I also love the animal printed sweater. I wish you a wonderful week ahead.
Thanks for the link up. I’m sorry I’m late. I am trying to create a page of blogs that I link too, and I’m almost there. I have Created a page on blogs I follow but somehow it’s not yet visible.

  4. I agree with you, Patti. The further I go in my explorations, the more I think that any colors can and should be mixed/matched (or mismatched) in one outfit, it’s simply a matter of combining right shades…and even that is subjective.
I love how the sweater pattern plays with your fabulous boots! And your hair looks amazing! <3

  5. I’ve got a wardrobe full of black white and grey but I like to add a splash of colour, usually a chunky necklace. White shirts are a weakness, I try hard to resist buying any more!

  6. Although I still love all my colours, I am leaning more and more into neutrals for the impact they give to my overall look, letting me shine through! Joining you with my rose velvet and copper look this weekend, Patti! Thank you ever so much for hosting!

  7. Since my closet is full of neutrals then I guess I’m a neutral kind of girl. I love how you style the sweater over your dress..so unexpected.

    xo,

  8. You’re doing neutrals very well, Patti. I love the animal print sweater, and the booties are just divine! xxx

  9. Loving this fun combination of neutrals! The prints make this such a standout and your sweater and boots are a match made in heaven!

  10. Oh my goodness Patti, I’m totally a neutrals person…except, of course, pink is a neutral. I wear tons of black, gray and navy. You look fabulous! Have a great week!

  11. I’m a big fan of neutrals and have redefined my idea of what a neutral is. I’ve even added leopard to the list of neutrals I love! You look fabulous in your neutral outfit! Happy Monday! Cheryl

  12. Like the other commenters have already said, your neutrals are far from boring, there’s a wealth of interest in your choice of patterns and tones and your hair elevates everything you wear to fabulous. xxx

  13. Neutrals in all their guises are the backbone of my choices too and as you so beautifully show are never boring. Glad to hear your hair is playing nice and thickening . Many thanks for Visible Monday.

  14. I am all about neutrals. I try to add color to my wardrobe, but then it’s back to neutrals I go. I used to stick with black and grey, but lately I have been mixing in other color combos like navy and black – which I think look fresh together. Great color mixing and fun outfit!

  15. I’ve never undertood why navy and brown shouldn’t be together. I mean, brown is probably one of the best colours to combine with blue! But hey, who cares about silly rules, anyway?

  16. Yeah, I love how the booties and top play together too. Your neutrals know how to have a good time. Mine bicker occasionally, but I show them who’s boss. Heh. Thanks for the linkup, Patti. I like the B&W too.

  17. Love how the groovy print on your top mimics the booties.

I’m happy to hear the hair is recovering. It is amazing how our hair shows stress so easily.

  18. I such a neutral lady too. Grey, black and brown are main go to but do some color work. . I would rather have just a few colors for some punch rather than a bunch mixed up, if that makes sense! I like your idea of a sweater over a dress. I use it to winterize a warmer weather dress, which you don’t have to worry about. Great look, thanks for the linkup-Terri xox
