Aging Beautifully: Lena Olin, My Age Twin

I am having fun looking up famous people born the same year I was. Both Steve Jobs (miss you, Steve) and Bill Gates, for example! A fine year for entrepreneurs. Bill Paxton, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Billy Bob Thorton: a Bill-ish year, too. And this gorgeous actress, Lena Olin:

Ms. Olin is a Swedish actress whose first international notice came in the sensuous, serious film The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988). It’s a bittersweet movie, co-starring one of my movie husbands, Daniel Day-Lewis.

She’s appeared in over 40 films, including another personal favorite, Chocolat (2000), and one I have not seen yet but is on my list: The Reader (2008). She’s won Golden Globes and an Academy Award and countless accolades for her talent.

At the premiere of The Reader. Love the red lipstick and simple hair.

She has a natural, confident beauty and a glow that says “I am not too young, but don’t think about putting me in the corner!” Keep glowing, Lena Olin, age 57.

Have a fabulous Saturday, and don’t forget: Monday, November 5th is Visible Monday. Everyone is welcome to participate!

  1. Thank you for sharing for this info, it may be helpful for somebody to use it for writing some essay,
for example. I especially need to notice your ability to express data
in an accessible manner. As a popular-science blogger, I want to be sure of every part of my writing to
meet inquiring heads with quality advice and maintain their
interest until the close of the article. You made me read
    it till the end

  2. I loved Lena in The Unbearable Lightness of Being Рwe watched it only recently and it was just as good as the first time I saw it in the 80s.  She's absolutely wonderful and what a pair of beauties you two are:) xo

  3. Dearest Patti,
The 1st photo shows her at age 54 but that is still valid; no doubt. If she did ward off cosmetic surgery and still looks this natural, it is incredible.
Thanks for showing us one more role model.
    Hugs to you,

  4. I share your birth year- 1955, right? Glad to see a blog written for us 50-somethings! I love fashion and enjoy seeing your style choices. My 50s have really been one of my best decades so far.

  5. I have loved her since I first saw 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' … one of my all time favorite films. ¬†Ann-Margaret is my birth year counterpart …¬†

  6. ¬†Gosh, thanks Sheila! I only meant to say she's my birth-year twin, not that we look alike — but that's a lovely compliment¬† : >

    • Lena Olin is ageless. Her movies are ageless. I never tire a movie with Lena Olin. As an aging woman, I am happy to see other women who take care of themselves and their families, spiritually, mentally and physically.

  7. I've only recently found your blog and I love it. I'm six years behind you so keep setting such a wonderful example!

  8. I do this, too. Isn't it fun? And inspirational. It makes me feel like less of an old dog. I share a year with Oprah, Christie Brinkley and Jerry Seinfeld to name a few. You seem so young! You and Lena are looking pretty darn gorgeous!
